Perfecting Social Media for Small Business

Perfecting Social Media for Small Business

For many small businesses, social media can be overwhelming.  Despite knowing how important it is to have a strong, defined social presence, many small businesses move their social media accounts to the bottom of their to-do lists.

When it comes to social media, there are a lot of different areas to focus on – which can cost a small business a lot of time and money.  Here are the top three areas that small business should focus –  expanding brand awareness, increasing website traffic and building a loyal community.

Expanding Brand Awareness

Unless you have unlimited resources, you’re not going to be able to effectively manage all of the various social media platforms. So begin by picking two or three platforms that you feel best serve you and your customers. It is much more effective to have two very strong social media accounts then five mediocre ones.  After narrowing down your accounts, spend time creating valuable content. Publish more content, regularly – consistency is key. Producing meaningful content your customers are actually looking for is one of the best ways to create brand awareness.

Increasing Website Traffic

Guess what! Producing all that valuable content will also help increase your website traffic! Like we said, content is king! How are you presenting the content to your followers? – Are you asking them to take action or providing them with a teaser to pull them to your site or are you simply citing a useful fact? Whatever you do, make sure a customer can easily find their way to your site. The longer the customer has to look, the more likely they are to give up.

Building a Loyal Community

So, you have narrowed down your accounts, you’re producing some pretty great content and your followers are loving it!  Now what? Engage with your followers! If someone leaves you a comment, respond! If someone shares your post, say thanks and give it a like! This is one area where small business can excel. Loren Taylor, CEO of Soothing Walls, said “when social media makes them feel like part of your small-business family, customers will return again and again.”

Every small business should be taking advantage of benefits and growth that come from social media. If you do feel overwhelmed, begin by focusing on these three areas and before you know it, you will be ready to take your social media to the next level.
